Fragrant Westphalia

The problem with the blog is that it has to be written on the computer. The problem with the computer is that it’s connected to the internet. The problem with the blog is that there are many more things which are more interesting on the internet. Must. Find. Motivation.

Meanwhile the rabbit has been locked up and is proceeding to rattle the bars of her cage for attention. I must not cave. I will not be defeated by 3.5kg of cute. The rabbit is also more interesting than the blog so I must not get distracted. Focus.

Although it is arguable just how not distracted I am when the first two paragraphs are all about what I must not be distracted by.

In other news I think I’m going to be on telly. On the next round of Blue September /prostate awareness ads. I’ll let you guess which one I am. I’ll give you a hint, there will be blue face paint. No, I’m not Paul Holmes. Not Richard Hadlee. Definitely not the Mad Butcher either.

Right. So back to the blog. Seeing that I now have to cook 2 recipes a night I have to maintain more focus. I managed to fit in a whole 15 minutes sitting in front of the telly tonight. I can be such a slacker some times.

Ok, so last Wednesday I made my house smell like a fish and chip shop. I hadn’t been able to cook on Monday or Tuesday because we’d been out so I had some ground to make up. We did win the quiz by the way. What two elements in the first twenty in the periodic table begin with ‘B’. Why that’s Beryllium and Boron of course…

So back to Wednesday. FOCUS. I started off easy with cheese and bacon savouries. This was cheese and bacon grilled on toast. I said I started off easy. The husband was most impressed.

Next was tuna savouries. This was tuna mixed with mayo and spread on crackers. Again not so challenging. The husband was still impressed.

At some point I decided I needed to heat up the chefade and do some deep frying – I promise I hadn’t been drinking – don’t drink and fry people.

Savoury potato rolls. Presumably as opposed to sweet potato rolls? These were unusual and painfully rich. Mashed potato, flour and other ingredients mixed together to form a sort of loose dough, filled with mince and then crumbed and deep fried. All in all this was not the cleanest process in the world as you can possibly imagine – there was flour, mince, egg and breadcrumbs everywhere.

The Husband was slightly less than pleased by this but he was now weighted down by the mass of several savoury potato rolls, 5 crackers covered in tuna and mayo and a piece of bread covered in cheese and bacon. He was in no condition or position to start picking fights over the state of cleanliness in the kitchen.

Last on the list were the Westphalia balls. I’m not sure what it’s like in Westphalia I only hope I doesn’t smell like a chip shop too. Westphalia balls are mashed potato mixed with ham, rolled into balls and coated with breadcrumbs. The kitchen could not have possibly become an more of a filthy pit by this stage. The Husband was actually too full to eat these so they had to go to work with him the next day.

If these levels of fat intake continue, by the end of the Edmonds the only firm thing about the poor man might be his arteries.

ROFL. You have me in stitches!

You are amazing sticking with your mission.

I have heard the word Chefade for at least two decades. I forgot all about it. OMG, so you can still buy it?

Remember about five or so years ago helping friends move house. They had gotten boxes from the local supermarket.

One of them had the word LARD in big black letters across the side. We were all gobsmacked that someone would actually print the word lard on something in this day and age and not use a pseudonym haha

i am in stitches too!
crumbing things made from mashed potato is one of my least-favourite kitchen jobs ever.
it comes apart, it's soft and tricky to handle and one leaves an absolute trail of muck from one end of the kitchen to the other.

still, i could really go some westphalia balls right about now.
